Former Indian cricketer Virender Sewag, the only Indian batsman to have scored two triple centuries in Tests, continues to entertain his fans off-field, through his highly popular twitter account, earning a hefty Rs 30 lakhs in the process.
His witty tweets and humour were exercised initially to wish fellow cricketers on their birthdays, but the Sultan of Multan soon gained a fast following of a legion of twitter fans. After the meteoric rise of followers in 2016, sponsors soon followed.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times Sewag said “I have, in the last six months, made around Rs 30 lakh through my tweets.”
“Once I took to Twitter and shared those jokes, they became a huge hit. My following grew and some of the posts got thousands of retweets. With so many shares, money from sponsors followed.”
A part of the Hindi commentary team for Indian team’s matches, Sewag is known amongst his fellow commentators for making best use of the limited available characters on Twitter.
